In searching for an education journal I decided to subscribe to a free newsletter from Edutopia. I subscribed to Edutopia News and Technology in Education. I couldn't find anything that related directly to kindergarten, so I am hoping that these newsletters will include meaningful information I can apply in my classroom.
Here is the link to the subscibtion page.

Power Points as an Educational Tool
Power point can be a very powerful tool in the classroom. As a kindergarten teacher I have used power point during curriculum night as a tool for parents to visually see what I am talking about. I also provide them with a curriculum night packet, so the information in my powerpoint is highlighting what is in my packet and it is not repeatative.
With my students I would create a powerpoint presentation for them perhaps in reading or for a math lesson. Using power point in my classroom would definatly look different then in a high school or junior high classroom. Older students would have an opportunity to create their own power point which would be very appropriate for that age group. I think power point is a very useful tool and easy to learn how to use.

Presensky Article
I thought the Presensky Article brought up a really good point regarding what students are facing in the classroom with teachers who are "Natives" versus "Immigrants". I have found in my experience their are several teachers who simply feel they can teach the exact same way they did 20 plus years ago! The newer teachers joining the field of education are typically "Natives" ready to integrate technology into the classroom and know how to make learning with the use of technology meaningful!
Many parents in my experience have commented on my age and question my ability to teach their children, however they don't understand how much more energy I have to put into my teaching! I truly believe that students should be able to adapt to how their teacher presents information. However, immigrants should learn the "new way" so they can prepare their students for what is ahead of them!

Intro. to me
Hi I'm Jen Maxfield and I am in my third year of teaching in the Lake Washington School District. I am currently an All Day Kindergarten teacher and I love working with this age group. I am also earning my Pro. Cert. along with my Master's in Technology at City University. I hope to be more tech savvy by the end of my program!
